Presentation in Boutique 13 rue St Florentin,75001

Junko Shimada showed her Fall/winter collection today in her Paris boutique located near the Place du Concorde.

The atmosphere was relaxed and one had the feeling of being invited to share with her family. While looking through the collection the designers Alexis Mabille, Kenzo Takada and jeweler Elie Top came to look in and see Shimada’s latest.

The collection, as ever, created from Shimada was light and playful. Its inspiration from a Great-Gatsby jazz-age, Alice in Wonderland, a countryside with romping aristo-girls, laughing and carelessly holding Champagne bottles by the neck. One imagined these clothes being worn in this happy wonderland with a mix of masculine and feminine silhouettes winking at Couture daywear.

Some highlights from the collection were a tweed-plaid pantsuits with sporty detailing, and a feathered bustier dresses festooned with large bows in vermillion silk satin. Also there was a lady-like pink and gray houndstooth tailored jacket with knife-pleated pink chiffon ruffles on the bottom hem and sleeves, and it’s skirt to match completely from rows of ruffles.

There were a sporty-feminine looks too, such as the tracksuit in a tangerine and slate-blue paisley knit with striped ribbed details, and a cream woolen ribbed leg-warmers for pants worn with a patent leather shearling coat.

There were also flowing chiffon ball gowns. One printed like shadowy Chinese porcelain in soft yellow and violet worn with a hooded furry cape and tied with a big pink satin bow. Another in lavender boasting vintage 1970s bedroom wallpaper print with giant salmon colored roses.

So many eclectic elements in one collection could create discord, but not here. It all held together with a toss of a multicolored scarf here, a detail of a satin bow there and through the  predominant silhouette, mood and spirit. Doing what only Junko Shimada is able to do.
