Pierre Hardy FW19/20  March 1, 2019 – rue Sevandoni, Paris 6, France

Pierre Hardy has all his customers in mind. The ones who never look at the price-tag and the ones who do. And when it comes to the luxury leathers he uses or the fine French craftsmanship or even the upscale style he creates, no distinction is made between them.

For this season, his inspiration started at the starting priced line and organically worked its way through the rest of the collection. One of the signatures for the line is his bold stripes and his contrasting colored finishes. And it is here Mr. Hardy found his inspiration. These were brightly hued suede and varnished patent leather low heels or low heeled 60’s boxy or kitten-heeled boots of differing lengths from ankle to mid-calf. Linear racing stripes ran up back seams, on straps across arches and intersected crossways and lengthwise. There was a sophisticated rock/mod feel in this first line.

The next stage of the morphing striped theme was a series of spiked heeled sandals and bottines or platforms in butter-soft suede. Here the colors, nearly the same palette as the first line became a bit more muted. And the multiple series of stripes crossed both longitudes and latitudes of the shoe. These styles led into the more complicated intersecting lines in the trainers on offer. Here a boxy modern shaped trainer’s white sole cut-in upwards at the arch was followed by layers of colored stripes of irregular width in pearl, charcoal, black, burgundy and burnt orange to finally finish with metallic silver with a single thin stripe of mat white down the top center. Sounds complicated, but in fact the effect was subtle elegance, so rare in bulky modern trainers that are the style trend. A similar treatment was given to a sandal with a classic stiletto heel in a softer color palette. An additional series were available in a modern tweedy canvas patch-worked in muted and bright hues and outlined in contrasting color emphasizing the puzzle-pieces of the shoe.

Finally just to be sure that every one of his customers found happiness, Pierre re-did his classic shapes in a patchwork of colors from two to three hues outlined in black in glossy patent leather or snakeskin. Impossible it would be not to find your pot-of-gold under Pierre Hardy’s rainbow.
