March 1st 2019 – Rue de l’école de Médecine, Paris, France :

Andrew Gn, loves glamour, loves women, and loves dressing women glamorously. This season the glamour came from the set of Dynasty by way of Nairobi before reaching Paris for fashion week.

Jewel toned animal prints were everywhere and it was not uncommon to find leopard prints mixed with a couple of python prints all in the same colorway. Besides several versions of leopard and python there were giraffe, and zebra and even a Swarovski beaded serpent running down a black wool sateen pantsuit, dress or duster. Besides the jewel tones of emerald and sapphire, and orange tourmaline, there was also a large segment in black and white drawing a stark contrast to the full color of the rest of the collection. Reaching back to the designers Asian roots were a few billowing dresses in tonal greens, tonal green and turquoise, and orange and yellow in a traditional chrysanthemum printed silk satin and elsewhere details of frog passmentry closures . Lip-stick red was used throughout as we have seen as a highlighter in many collection this season.

There were glitter and shine, pretty doily lacework, marabou feathers, bows, rhinestones, leg-o-mutton sleeves, and high-heeled snake-skin boots. And yet, there was nothing over-the-top as so many elements brought together in one collection could become. Nary a single step wrong, each look was rich and elegant and the model wearing it stunning. And yet, the collaboration of so many beautiful elements brought together with an expert and loving eye just never happened. The magic of a reverie or a vision from this wonderful designer seemed to be missing this time.
