Alexis Mabille- A Rainbow Splash in Elegance and Simplicity.
Alexis Mabille Spring/summer 2019 – Paris Fashion Week SS19.
Alexis Mabille- January 22, 7, place Vendôme, Paris
Alexis Mabille showed his Haute Couture spring collection ‘Rainbow Splash’ in the exclusive Place Vendôme, just steps away from his chocolate-box size boutique in the Hotel Ritz.
Replacing sky-blue as a rainbow’s backdrop the Mabille one was in fuchsia pink. The normal ball-gowns found in Haute Couture were present but with a modern sophistication that only Mabille can bring to this sometimes old-fashioned and too stiff version of fashion.
There was a bright show of color this season with hot-pink bright lemon, turquoise, coral, red and emerald as the main fare. Slinky, shimmery pieces in metallic liquid gold were another highlighted color. Most pieces in solid fabrics and only a couple floral prints were available.
And yet the collection stood out in its elegance and simplicity. The fabrics were rich and heavy but not the eye and the hands that shaped them. The silhouette was long, natural and lean and dripping over, with heavy softness, the curves of his runway stars.
There was a wonderful illusion of Watteau style in several gowns, some gathered at the arms and others falling from shoulders and ballooning into elegant fullness.
The brand’s signature bows were present decorating dramatic bustiers as were the drapy pantsuits for which the brand is known. Less seen, were the transparent tulle lingerie looks, besides a slight nod with some long and lacy tubular pieces.
But plenty of girly-ness was afoot with marabou details, ruffles, flounces and florid duchess silk satin.
Knowing his clientale well, Mabille offered not one but three wedding looks.
The final bridal creation was naivety personified with a pair of lacework angle wings adorning a virgin bride.
