Dunhill, an exploration in sober, sporty and fine tailoring – PFW MEN FW19
Dunhill Men’s Collection – Fall-Winter 2019/20
January 20. Lycée Carnot, 145 Blvd Malesherbes, 75017
Dunhill fall/winter 2019-20 collection held at the French Carnot Lycée Sunday was an exploration in sober, sporty and fine tailoring. The staging was a somber charcoal runner, like an asphalt strip, placed in front of single deep benches bordering either side. One had the feeling of a rainy and gritty city, deep in the heart of Manhattan or London.
The addition the soundtrack by Moses Boyd, a clanging machine drum percussion-like noise of the city, deepened the illusion of megalopol-chaos. And there, one finds the Dunhill man: tough, determined and focused in his path.
Silhouettes in jackets and bombers and even the some of the pants were amply cut and over-sized without being dramatic. Shapes of trenches, anoraks, single and 3-buttoned single or mid-way single to double breasted suit jackets, bombers and loose black-tie looks were modern, urban and sporty.
The fabrics kept for the most part to the traditional in wool serge, flannel, corduroy, with the addition of sport technical fabrics that we have seen everywhere on the runways this season. Hats were present too, which we have also seen as a trend. In this instance in the shapes of sleek leather baseball caps, and low sitting fedoras.
Besides a few swaths of color in vivid purple, dark teal and ultramarine, colors kept to the traditional menswear winter palette in grey, kaki, midnight blue, navy, black, charcoal and brown.
Weston who is new at the helm since only a few seasons and formally at Burberry mentioned that he sought out to “rediscover a quite, discrete and confident sophistication.”
His imaginary muse was a man who understands a certain aesthetic language in style but was confident enough in his skin “they’re not shouting about it.”

DUNHILL : FALL-WINTER 2019/20 COLLECTION THE RUNWAY SHOW
Re-live the dunhill FW 2019 runway show for Men’s Fashion Week Paris. From Country House to Acid House, the duality of British clothing cultures comes to the fore in this season’s dunhill collection. Embracing both tradition and subversion, the field and the street, codified notions of taste and aspiration, crossing British cultures and class boundaries, is both wryly looked at and celebrated in the collection.
