Juun. J, a 90s play on Urban Winter-Wear
Juun. J – Collection FW 2019/20 – Men’s Fall 19 / Paris Fashion Week
One should have known that it was going to be a blustery freezing day when the designer sends you a large woolen plaid with the invitation for his show. But such a cold winter’s day was the perfect stage for Juun. J’s mixed gender collection for fall/winter 2019-20.
The collection was labeled as Synthesize referring to the usage of iconic 90’s fabrics and sports shapes; but it might also have been labeled modern cocooning as the models were bundled in layers and cushioned in sci-fi puffy snow-coat hoods detached from their origins.
Plaid fabrics mixed and unmatched in patchworks of flowing, A-line and pleated shirts. There were pieces with a monochromatic palette mixing prints of camouflage and plaid. Over-wide drooping shoulders on nipped waist business suit jackets mixing red, navy, black, white plaid shirting on black and white hounds-tooth flannel.
Stonewashed denim was used in a play of two colors with indigo and black in over-knee skirt-over-pant combos. There were also some cozy woolen blankets, pleated and made-up into skirts, and some large ski-knits used in unconventional ways. Metallic silver-like foil found its way into nearly every look giving the collection a modern sci-fi feel and taking us right into the year 2020.
In collaboration with Canada Goose brand, Juun. J re-imagined the Sport brand’s traditional and iconic pieces and showed beyond-ample parkas and over-sized puffers, some in ultra-fine merino wool, and made-up a large segment of the collection.
There were even mini-puffers covering head, neck and shoulders that accessorized hounds-tooth business suits and dusters.
The overall effect was modern, urban, and desirably practical in that these are the clothes you wanted to cover yourself on such a day.
The collection was such a perfectly warm and cozy offering for a perfectly freezing winter’s day in Paris.
