MoonYoungHee – Only in Paris could active sportswear look so elegant – Paris Fashion Week

The MoonYoungHee show Tuesday in the Latin Quarter of Paris on the last day of Paris Fashion Week was one of the highlights of the season.

Moon YoungHee, Tuesday 2 October 2018 – Paris University Descartes

The location was well chosen. It being in the building of the Paris University Descartes- only in Paris would a building in such elegance and grandeur be a school facility. Only in Paris could active sportswear look so elegant, and high-fashion, and posses that “got to have it” quality. Do not misunderstand. MoonYoungHee, is not a traditionally sportswear designer. She has affirmed herself in the Paris high-fashion stratosphere since the 90’s. But her style this season is inherently active sportswear. But not just…

Trench coats and cargo pants were a recurring silhouette. Known for her Belgium-esque deconstruction; Moon, this season stayed close to her roots. Swathed in draped layers, colors and textures juxtaposed in eye-catching yet soul soothing looks- models seemed to glide down the runway.

There was an exquisite use of lemon-yellow organza, transparent and crocodile embossed. This material was used in various versions of trench coats. These worn with versions of white-cotton men’s style dress-shirts; sometimes sleeveless and with obligatory sneakers. Light silk-chiffon asymmetrical wraps were draped over heavy white-cotton monastic tunics adding soft fluidity to structure. A glittery silver-mesh and pocketed trench coat worn over layers of white including: turtleneck transparent tee under a long soft lab-coat; with bottom in a thigh-grazing skirt over a full and soft linen trouser, was one look particularly spectacular.

There was a look that seemed to be MoonYoungHee’s version of a wedding dress. This was in transparent layers of white silk-georgette, chiffon and guipure lace; tunic-like, religiously Belgium and a little roman-esque. I have earmarked this ephemeral look (of course with leopard sneakers included) for any future second, for-now-unplanned weddings.
