HEAVEN GAIA‘s owner, Chinese Couturière XIONG YING, showed her Ready-to-Wear collection today. This season’s offering was anything BUT Ready-to-Wear. Her beautifully poetic creations floated past viewers it seemed, on their way to heaven. It was like witnessing a miracle of a Chinese manga legend stepping out of pages of time. Her inspiration this season came by way of Dunhuang, and the frescoes of the Mogao caves located in these religious and cultural crossroads of the historic Silk Road.
The caves there are known for containing some of the best examples of Buddhist art spanning a period of 1,000 years.
Which maybe explains why Heaven Gaia showed such an expansive collection for her show. One thousand years is a lot to catch-up to in one single season.
The collection that ran 62 looks in a effervescent, airy defile this Friday, 28 September – was packed with drama and mystic.
As each looked floated through the palatial halls of the Hôtel Particular of Salomon de Rothschild, viewers oooh-ed and ahhh-ed. Just when you thought you finally had seen the pinnacle look in the collection, attention was once again taken hostage with the next, even more awe-inspiring.
Heaven Gaia has her own style. And it is not ritually tied to the current fashion trends. She lives in an ulterior, floating, magic world where gravity does not touch the fabrics of her creations and colors evaporate into thin-air.
A world where Chinese culture is not traded-in for western ways.
One cheongsam inspired silhouette with black to white ombré silk-chiffon, flowing bolero jacket was cut long to the floor in the back and was worn over a pear grey, silk-satin organza, long floor-length shift.
On the later was printed a tone-on-tone print of water rippling in graceful curves, following the sway of the model’s walk. It was a true masterpiece.
Other dresses, long and flowing, nipped-in at the waist in a western inspired shape, held front and back panels of finely embroidered imperial Chinese motifs.
Ombré fabrics in colors such as aforementioned, black to white, also burgundy to red to white, blush pinks, fluorescent lemon,
Miami-blue, navy to sky, smoky charcoal to pearl, and a finale with the wedding procession in water printed ombré silk, white into the sea-blue at the bottom hem.
There were so many enthralling looks it is impossible to list them here. Instead I will invite you to take a look at the collection yourself.
Be ready to be transported from your seat to a far and distant and beautiful world.
