Hyun Mi Nielsen – Ready to Wear SS19 – Paris Fashion Week 2018
Hyun Mi Nielsen – A different view of beauty.
Watching a fashion show is always interesting, not to say exciting since unexpected thoughts often appear unbidden.

Why then did the great designer and artist Erte flash into my mind as I watched the show of Christine Nielsen? Something about the decoration which although punk rocker to some, had a couture control and delicacy for me.
Something about the elongated silhouettes which evoked the twenties and thirties, and certainly in the fronds and straps of leather, which definitely had that Erte touch.
In a monochrome palette the collection featured menswear, tailored pieces, veiled evening looks and both complex and minimal concepts side by side.
This collection was the first shown during pret a porter, as opposed to couture, yet the quality of finish was exemplary, and the overall statement of the collection and its presentation was to the same standards.
There is a tilted or oblique view of beauty within the designers vision. Tribal, legends, exoticism, punk and rock all combine in a narrative which is totally cohesive.
The off kilter contrast between surfaces and shapes where a huge wrapped boldly striped slouchy coat is followed by an impossibly slender tunic and long, long trousers.
It’s Hyun Mi ( Christine) Nielsen’s vision, and I for one am both intrigued and seduced by it. Merci Christine.
